This introduction to large format photography will consider ways to see and think differently when using a view camera. You will learn the basics of camera movements, loading sheet film, and mastering the controls. If you are considering making images with a more contemplative style using a view camera, this session is for you.
In the workshop Nick will initially show some of his television and film stills, telling some of the stories behind the pictures. He'll then talk about his passion for large format photography, show his own work and demonstrate view camera operations. You will have the opportunity to try it for yourself. If you already have a large format camera, do bring it along.
About Nick: Nick Lockett was Chief Photographer for Central Television and Head of Pictures for Carlton Television, producing still images and picture publicity on TV programmes as diverse as INSPECTOR MORSE, SPITTING IMAGE and POP IDOL. He now works as a freelance photographer, and teaches fine art photography at De Montfort University. He lives in Derbyshire, and much of his personal photography is concerned with ancient sites and trackways near his home in the Peak District. Recent exhibitions include ‘The Portway – A Line Through Time’ and ‘Ancient Stones, Sacred Places’.
