This is a hands-on workshop focusing on the more creative aspects of photography and aims to develop confidence in creating strong and imaginative photographs through practical sessions. Yoke stresses that you can find interesting, eye catching images everywhere, in the home and going places. ‘It is all in the mind's EYE'.
To begin participants will study images created by well-known photographers as well as work by Yoke Matze with the aim of examining lighting, composition, texture and form to create strong visual images. Time will then be spent taking photographs with Yoke on location in the Piccadilly area before the final session where you will download files onto a laptop for Yoke to give constructive feedback on the work created.
Yoke Matze is one of the founder members of LIP and a very experienced photographer who also works as lecturer and exhibition organiser/curator. Her work is in collections in the United Kingdom and The Netherlands, including: the Museum of London, the Theatre Museum in London, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Prentenkabinet of the University of Leiden, the Municipal Museums in The Hague and Gouda, and in private collections. Since 2002 Yoke has developed an expanding range of creative photographic courses for YM Photography courses London, working with young people preparing for university entry, those who enjoy photography as a creative pastime and those aiming for a professional career.
This workshop would be particularly beneficial for the less confident photographer or the experienced photographer who needs inspiration.
Responses to the Workshop
From the pictures I took I still seem to like this one the most. I guess it could be because it is so different from the kind of pictures I normally take, and think it is due to the way Yoke inspired us in her workshop to go out and just capture the surrounding area. I really enjoyed how we were then able at the end of the day to all got back together and look at each other's work, discuss what we captured and how we went about doing it. A great way to spend even a rainy day! - Ian Serfontein
I really enjoyed the day and felt very inspired to go out and to do more. It was also very helpful to get feedback - positive and negative - on the photos. - Sabine Thole
The workshop was really good - I wasn't very happy with what I took at the time but I'm continuing with my photo a day with fresh inspiration! - Martin Dixon
I much enjoyed the day, first of all seeing Yoke's photos taken a few days previously in the streets around St James's Picadilly; and then going out to see what I could do myself. I had great fun observing the fascinating people out and about, most of them friendly and happy and pleased to be photographed. It was good to see everyone's selected pictures and hear Yoke's illuminating comments. - Kate Wentworth
Many thanks for an excellent day. It was welcoming, encouraging and inspiring. - Barbara Luckhurst
