In this one-day workshop you will make two multi-sectioned, non-adhesive books. Folding paper into several sections you will stitch them together using the Coptic binding method with board covers decorated using inkpads. In the afternoon you will sew sections onto card tapes, which will then be threaded onto a folded card cover. Clare will show examples and talk through the methods of pagination and planning involved in multi-section books.

This workshop is appropriate for beginners just starting out with an interest in making books by hand, and those with more experience who want to extend or refresh their skills.

Clare Bryan originally studied Graphic Design at Salisbury College of Art (1983-87) and worked in the industry for several years before returning to study Printmaking and Bookbinding at Croydon College of Art (1994-96) and then an MA in Bookarts at Camberwell College of Art (1997-98). She is a member of ‘FOLD’ a group of four artists who formed in 2002 working with a combined interest in print and book arts. She has been teaching since 1997 and currently teaches at The City Literary Institute in London. Her work is in both private and public collections, Yale Centre for British Art, Tate Library and The Government Art Collection.
