David Lewis: The Persistence of Memory

My sixth solo exhibition takes its title from Dali’s famous 1931 painting, depicting a surreal scene symbolising the passing of time and its effects on the memory.

The images are all of colourful advertising posters in various locations both in the UK and abroad. Some are photographed in the context of their immediate, changing surroundings, some are not. The main link is that most are shown in various stages of disintegration, some from weathering, others due to overlaying by, or juxtaposition with, more recent posters or graffiti: an extended and, I hope, appealing visual metaphor inspired by the exhibition’s title, a dreamscape of memories.
