Braided Together unites nine international contemporary women artists who each share an interest in the symbolic expression of human hair either as material or subject in their work. Inspired by the work of Women Surrealists, the exhibition investigates specifically female and art historical concerns such as fragility, loss and power. The work shown will be multi-disciplinary including painting, etching, sculpture, drawing, photography and video.
Mary Dunkin was a long-time LIP member and organised our events programme for some time until she passed away in 2008. Her work on women with long hair, which was featured in London Independent Photography magazine a few years ago, in memory of her, is included in this exhibition.
