Dan Bachmann: The Shepherds of Lunca Ilvei

This is Dan Bachmann’s first solo exhibition. In the most North Eastern corner of Transylvania, lies the idealistic village of Lunca Ilvei. Horses easily out number cars, tractors and trucks combined. They play a major role in forestry, the town’s major industry, from bringing trees out of the woods to carrying the processed timber to the rail road. Heat comes only from wood burning stoves; bread is only sold at the house it was baked in and milk comes fresh from the farm on the next road, if not the neighbor’s cow. In the shop, a promise works better than a credit card. Mud is everywhere, but the air could not be cleaner.
