Modern Maori Warriors returns to the Sir John Cass as a solo exhibition, marking two years since it was first exhibited there as part of the MA graduation show. In this new progression of work, Heloise juxtaposes the history of photography with that of facial ta moko. Exploring notions of mana or prestige, she presents modern ta moko wearers simultaneously as the subjects of carte de visites and as large scale contemporary portraits.
