Caroline Fraser in findings – an exhibition of intimate landscape photography

Caroline Fraser

Caroline’s work is a response to the beauty and infinite variation of objects found in nature, along with a concern for the natural environment. Her quiet representations of mood and place are created with an emphasis on the intimate details in nature, using abstraction and layering.
In this exhibition she will be presenting abstract landscapes from the seashore at Camber Sands and New Zealand, exploring the play of light on water and the fragility of natural objects found on the shore.

Pollution: A Visual Investigation into London’s Toxic Roads

Jon Davies

Photographs taken on some of London’s most polluted roads have been merged together to create unique visual outcomes that offer insight into the impact of dangerous toxins and particle matter on public health based on official data from King’s College London Environmental Research. It has been estimated that between 7-9 million lives across the globe are cut short each year due to health conditions brought about by exposure to vehicle pollution. My hope is that these perplexing but thought-provoking images will further the debate into the unseen dangers of pollution.

Mandy Williams in Beyond the Reach of Rivers

Mandy Williams

Beyond the Reach of Rivers is an exhibition by Mandy Williams that brings two photographic series about the sea to the beachfront in Brighton.

Sea Level documents the sea at high tide, viewed through a series of beach shelter windows. Dust and neglect becomes part of the image, reflecting a sense of melancholy that runs through many seaside towns.

Beyond Land is shot at a causeway revealed at low tide. Begun a month after the referendum, the line of people following paths out to sea not only documents our innate connection to water but can also be seen as a metaphor for the times.

Runs: 1 – 6 May 2019
Open: Daily 11am – 5pm. Free admission
Gallery: Fishing Quarter Gallery, 201 Kings Road Arches, Brighton. BN1 1NB
Public Transport: Brighton station – 15 minutes walk

Central Satellite Group Exhibition Factual Enigma

Geoff Titley

Creating or consuming stories appears to be a basic human need and we devise all kinds of means by which to do so. It is therefore not surprising that both makers and viewers of photographs try to concoct or tease stories from them. Yet since stories depend on time lines, still images do not easily lend themselves to narration. They show but they don’t tell. They describe but they don’t explain. They are factual enigmas.
