Chris is a self-taught photographer. His interest in photography originated from a desire to record his handmade furniture and his wife’s textile artistry. At first, the images relied on advice and inspiration from books, talking to other photographers and feedback from the local photo lab, as well as lots of basic trial and error.
One day by chance 13 years ago, Chris happened across a book by a Jeanloup Sieff. All the pictures were black and white: it must have been the right time and something stuck. He’s never looked back since. Chris’ collections of photography today take inspiration from diverse photographers and genres from all over the world, as well as his library that boasts over 200 art photography books. These influences have motivated him to keep improving his techniques.
Chris still uses film because he knows it and has all the gear and a home darkroom. He credits his wife with providing invaluable support.
