Grey Wings

    by Suzi Livingstone

This series attempts to snatch hold of transient memories, from a childhood blighted by my stubborn refusal to let anyone correct my extremely poor eyesight, to my adult years where I suffered from sporadic bouts of insomnia, followed by vivid dreams of flying and exhilarated feelings of detachment from the world around me. These episodes usually culminated in varying degrees of depression.

I was eventually diagnosed with a dissociative disorder and medication has eroded my dream world – I now no longer feel submerged within it but do catch glimpses of it every now and then, as if through a grey fog or a calm reflection.

Using a toy camera I have tried to capture and create a tactile juxtaposition of these fleeting moments.
