For this October, during the interim period between festivals, Brighton Photo Fringe will be holding OPEN ’09, a double-layered open submission exhibition for both photographic artists and curators. Open to everyone, this exhibition will be a unique opportunity for exhibitors and curators alike.
Lead curator John Gill (Founding Chair of Photoworks and previous Director of Chisenhale Gallery and Brighton Photo Biennial) will work closely with a group of selected curators to develop an ambitious exhibition from an open call for submissions that will celebrate Brighton Photo Fringe and act as a prequel to next year’s Fringe and Biennial. Selected works will be printed and mounted by Brighton Photo Fringe and three prizes will be awarded to the best works/exhibitors.
Submission fee - As print and mount costs will be covered by Brighton Photo Fringe, a small submission fee (£5) is required from potential exhibitors.
Deadline for Submissions (Curators): 5pm Friday 17 July (by email)
Deadline for Submissions (Photographers and Lens-Based Artists): 5pm Friday 31 July (by post)
For submission details and forms please contact
info@photofringe.org
and we will send you copies.
About Brighton Photo Fringe
Brighton Photo Fringe supports photographers and lens-based artists by creating platforms for and coordinating exhibitions that showcase the best of current photographic practice. Brighton Photo Fringe aims to embed photography into the cultural fabric of Brighton and Hove and the wider region, increasing access to and participation in high quality photographic exhibitions and events. Every two years Brighton Photo Fringe organises a citywide fringe festival that runs alongside Brighton Photo Biennial - in October-November 2008 this included 82 exhibitions by over 300 artists. The next Brighton Photo Biennial and Fringe festivals will be in October-November 2010 - OPEN ’09 will celebrate photography in Brighton during the interim year and act as a prequel to next year’s festivals.
