Laura Dodsworth

Laura divides her time between working as a professional wedding and portrait photographer and undertaking photographic art projects. She is an Associate member of the British Institute of Professional Photographers and the Master Photographers Association, and has won several awards for wedding photography.

Her current project, Marriage, is a series of portraits of women in their wedding dresses in their homes. Women are to some extent defined by marriage, as wives, homemakers and mothers. The portraits are taken within their homes to emphasise and explore the domestic nature of marriage. A wedding day is romantic, beautiful, full of optimism, and the bride and groom are poised on the brink of their journey through life together. The dress epitomises the spirit of the day. A woman grows and changes during her marriage, and these portraits convey some of those changes by contrasting the wedding day with the subsequent reality of marriage.
