Dennis Toff has recently finished photographing 58 of the 62 Painter Members of the Royal Academy of Arts (RAs) – the most comprehensive series since George Dance’s sketches of many of the members in 1793!
Twenty four of the images have been acquired by the National Portrait Gallery for their Collection and the complete set, together with images of examples of their work and brief biographies, form a book to be published by Unicorn Press in May.
The portraits were taken in the artists’ studios and the project took ten months to complete with travel to Italy, Sicily, the USA and all parts of the UK – not bad for an 81 year old!
