Thank you to members who attended our End of Year Gathering and rescheduled AGM on 12th December! We had at least 45 members join us, and in addition to completing 2011 committee elections and other business, we all enjoyed a festive occasion with a screening of members’ photographs from the past year, and a fun quiz.

In 2012 LIP will celebrate 25 years since its founding in 1987! If you feel you want to get more involved in the organisation of our activities, we are always seeking support from members, whether or not you wish to join the committee.

Currently we have three committee positions open: Chairman, Publicity Officer and Webmaster. To express interest in a position or to offer support in a specific area, just contact a member of the committee with some background details about yourself and why you think you would be suitable for a certain role. Members can be co-opted onto the committee and will formally stand for election at the AGM in November 2012.

Happy New Year, and all the best to our members for 2012!

The LIP AGM is for our members to take an active role in shaping our organisation going forward. It is at a conveniently accessible location and we have made it on a Saturday to make it easier for our members who live further away to attend.

Please do try to attend the AGM as this year we will have a revised constitution for members to vote on and there are some interesting committee positions that are currently without any nominations.

Please remember if you want to help in any capacity in assisting the Officers in their various roles you don’t necessarily have to become a committee member. If you feel that you can help in some way, have a chat with any of the committee officers at the AGM. Remember it’s your LIP and any contribution you can make can only help in making us an even better organisation.

DATE: Saturday 6th November 2010
TIME: 2-5pm
VENUE: The Grafton Suite, Grafton Hotel.
ADDRESS: 130 Tottenham Ct Rd., London, W1T 5AY
NEAREST TUBE: Goodge Street

PROPOSED REVISED LIP CONSTITUTION
This year the committee has been working on a revised constitution which was circulated to the membership on the 24th of August for consultation. A final version will be sent out 14 days prior to the AGM for ratification at this meeting.

THE FOLLOWING POSITIONS ARE OPEN:
Secretary
Due to spending more time in the US, Virginia Khuri has stood down as Secretary. The position involves attendance at all committee meetings and AGMs and responsibility for circulating the Agenda and reports preliminary to the meetings and then taking and distributing by email the minutes of all meetings. Graeme Webb has been acting as secretary during 2010.

Webmaster
This role is responsible for the website, updating and maintaining London Independent Photography’s digital interface with the rest of the world. If you feel you would like to get involved with this then the following skills are desirable:
- General web publishing using code languages HTML, PHP, Javascript and CSS
- WordPress administration
- PayPal administration
- Google Applications – documents & calendar
- Image gallery creation software
- Discussion forum management
- MySql database management

This is an idea opportunity to expand your skill set and get involved with a busy website Contact Tiffany by email at webmaster@londonphotography.org.uk if you wish to discuss your technical suitability or have any other questions.

Publicity Officer
This role is responsible for all aspects of proactively promoting LIP’s mission, exhibitions and news items to both traditional media i.e. Newspapers, magazines, radio and TV networks and on-line publications and websites that specialise in photographic content. If you feel that you would like to get involved with this then some previous experience would be desirable but not compulsory.

To express your interest to stand for one of the above open positions, please contact Graeme Webb by 20th October at secretary@londonphotography.org.uk

Welcome to Adrian Capps who was elected as Chair of London Independent Photography for a term of two years. He plans to build on past successes to bring LIP into the centre of the photographic community in London. By strengthening links amongst our membership and growing ties with other photographic institutions in the city, Adrian hopes to maintain LIP’s mission from it’s beginning, to “instruct , inform and inspire.”

Many thanks to outgoing Chair Brian Keane, who at the AGM four years ago volunteered for the position. He initiated redesign of the LIP magazine and website, modernizing and greatly improving both which resulted in a doubling of the LIP membership.

We are very grateful to Louise Forrester for all her design work on the last several issues of the magazine. She is leaving the position to focus her attentions on running the Viewfinder Gallery in Greenwich. Welcome to Anita Chandra who is our new magazine designer.

We thank Avril Harris our outgoing Exhibitions Organiser, for her work coordinating many successful group exhibitions and for being instrumental in obtaining the Cotton Atrium space. John Stead who has worked as her assistant for the past two exhibitions will replace her, with assistance from Melany Darke, Brigitte Flock and Susanna Suovalkama,

Posthumous thanks to Mary Dunkin for her contribution as Programme Organiser. And to Julie Long and Heather Martin who stepped in to take over when Mary became ill. They have agreed to continue.

This is your opportunity to help guide LIP and all its activities in the direction you would like it to go. You can get yourself voted onto the committee (just get a seconder and email me the details) or simply ask questions or make suggestions at the AGM.

More recent members may not be aware that LIP was successful earlier this year in getting a Lottery Grant from the Lottery Organisation “Awards for All”. We are organising a demonstration of this equipment immediately after the AGM and Elections and hope many members will turn up to see how we have spent over £3,000! Full details of the demo will be sent to you as soon as they are finalised.

All members are welcome to our AGM – please help us to get a full house.
