Our 23rd Annual Exhibition has now ended and we want to thank everyone who took time to visit and view the show this year! It was one of the most popular and diverse exhibitions in our history, and we received a very high standard of submissions across many genres. Congratulations to all members who participated!

For the past four years we have produce a lasting record of the exhibition – this year’s catalogue is now available for purchase from Blurb at cost price (a full book preview is also available).

Our 23rd Annual Exhibition is #1 of the The Big Pick list the top 10 things to do in London in this week’s Big Issue magazine.

Saturday, 29th October is the last day to see the show, so get there while you can!

A hearty thank you to all of our members and guests who joined us for the private view evening on 18th October!

We had a record number of prints submitted this year and 70 photographers had work selected for the exhibition. Prints in the show were selected by Bridget Coaker (picture editor at Guardian Newspaper Group & Director of Troika Editions) and Mick Williamson (head of Photography at London Metropolitan University), who together had an enormous challenge with so many submissions to consider. The resulting show is of an excellent standard, covering many photographic genres and unique approaches.

Our Annual Exhibition would be impossible to run without considerable assistance from our many member volunteers, and the commitment of our Exhibitions Organiser John Stead. Congratulations to the photographers exhibiting, and to all involved for making this year’s one of our most exciting exhibitions yet!

This year we have two great selectors to show your work to:

Dewi Lewis; (of the Dewi Lewis publishing house) Internationally known, its authors have included leading photographers such as Martin Parr, Simon Norfolk, William Klein, Frank Horvat, Paolo Pellegrin, Sergio Larrain and Bruce Gilden). A founding member of The European Publishers Award for Photography, now in its 18th year. An Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, Dewi was awarded the Society’s inaugural RPS Award for Outstanding Services to Photography in 2009.

Bridget Coaker; picture editor for the Guardian and Observer newspapers, Director of Photography for the online contemporary photography gallery Troika Editions, Director of the 2009 Hereford Photography Festival as well as being is a visiting lecturer at the University for the Creative Arts, University of Derby and the Hereford College of Art.

Exhibition Times & Private View
As last year the exhibition will be held in the Strand Gallery. It will open on Tuesday 18th October and close on Saturday 29th October; there will be a private view on the evening of Tuesday 18th for all members, details to follow closer to the time.

Submissions
Submissions will be accepted at the start September at three locations in London (Chiswick, Shoreditch and Sydenham) from the 2nd to the 5th September. Please see the 23rd Annual Exhibition pages for full details or locations and time.

Exhibition Workshop
LIP will soon be running a one-day course to explain how to prepare for the LIP exhibition (or any other exhibition submission). We will cover how to select work, basic print preparation, mounting, printing, paper choices, framing options, common submission errors and an insight into what happens at the LIP selection day. The exact date & location are still to be confirmed but most likely to be at the end of July in central London and will have a small charge to cover the venue cost. The LIP Annual Exhibition provides a platform for members to exhibit their best work from the past year. The selection process is conducted by individual professionals who are connected to London’s photographic community but are not members of LIP. This year’s selectors are Lucinda Chua (Strand Gallery, Proud Central) and Paul Ellis (Photofusion).

We are excited to be participating in the Photomonth Photofair this year at Spitalfields Market, and hope to see you there!

The fair has 100 stalls and stands with photographers selling prints, galleries representing photographers, books, magazines, products, services, talks and walks. It’s an ideal opportunity to see new work, buy prints, commission photographers and select images for exhibition.

Photomonth is a celebration of photography, now in its 10th year! In 2010 there are over 200 exhibitions and events in East London and beyond. The festival aims to demonstrate the diversity of contemporary photography and reach the widest possible audience.

LIP is also participating in the Photomonth programme with our 22nd Annual Exhibition at Strand Gallery (Proud Central). Many of our members also have exhibitions in London during the festival, and will be sharing their work at the Photofair October 9th.

As before, the exhibition will run for the last two weeks in October, and submissions will close around end of August. Updates and more information will be circulated to members by email and available on the website shortly.

For many years we have exhibited at Cottons Atrium and during this time have grown steadily both in the number of members entering and also the level of work shown. The LIP committee has considered ways to improve the Annual Exhibition, and after looking at potential new venues decided to make this move to a professional gallery space.

Thanks to all those who came out for the opening preview of the 21st Annual Exhibition at Cottons Atrium. Turnout on Sunday was excellent and it was a fantastic opportunity for members new and veteran to socialise and discuss the pictures on show.

Several LIP members are participating in this year’s Photomonth, East London Photography Festival. This is the only photography festival in London and the largest in the UK. The Photomonth 2009 brochure is available now, listing all participating galleries and spaces giving details of each exhibition and featuring a location map. Brochures are widely distributed free of charge all over London and beyond.
