LIP Chronicles: Life under Lockdown

The 32nd Annual Exhibition has been postponed until Autumn 2021. In its place this year all members are invited to submit images to LIP's upcoming online exhibition "LIP Chronicles: Life Under Lockdown".
Selectors are: Carole Evans, D Wiafe, Steve MacLeod and Anthony Luvera.

This juried virtual display of members' work responding to the brief "LIP Chronicles: Life Under Lockdown" will be held during November 2020. A newspaper will also be published to accompany the exhibition of the work selected. Submissions are open from Monday 6 July until midnight Friday 14 August 2020. Each member submitting will have a guaranteed image represented (subject to minimum technical quality; also subject to the image not being deemed offensive to the selection committee) in the exhibition and in the publication. Each member submitting will receive a copy of the published newspaper. During the selection process additional images may be chosen by the selectors from members' submissions.

As a community LIP has been affected by Covid-19, each member having their own perspective and their own response. This exhibition will be an inclusive online event showcasing the membership's response during Lockdown. All work members create during this period of Lockdown has the potential to be historically important. For each image submitted members are asked to write an artist statement which can be either a single sentence or up to 200 words, that will accompany the submitted images(s). If images are part of a larger project please additionally provide an artist statement about the project. This will be additional information for the selectors during the selection process.

How to Enter

Complete the ENTRY FORM by midnight, Friday 14 August 2020.
a. Ensure you have uploaded digital copies of your images during the entry process.
b. An entry fee of £10 is payable per LIP member submitting work for consideration. The fee entitles the photographer to submit up to 5 images. Payment is accepted online at the time of entry (PayPal) or by cheque payable to London Independent Photography (Please post to arrive no later than the 14 August to Colleen Harvey, 10 St. Mark's Square, London NW1 7TN
c. Selections Announced - Friday 4 September
An announcement will be posted on the LIP website Friday 4 September, listing the member's image(s) selected for "LIP Chronicles: Life Under Lockdown". Members will also receive an email confirming their image(s) selection. Members will be asked to send a high resolution file of the selected image(s) for inclusion in a printed publication of the full exhibition.
d. Each member submitting will have a guaranteed image represented (subject to minimum technical quality; also subject to the image not being deemed offensive to the selection committee) in the exhibition and in the publication. During the selection process additional images may be included from members' submissions.

2. Terms and Conditions

General

The Terms and Conditions below apply to all work submitted.

1. The London Independent Photography "LIP Chronicles: Life under Lockdown" is open to all members with a valid membership of London Independent Photography at the time of submission and exhibition.

2. By submitting images each entrant confirms that:
   a. It is their own original work
   b. That they own the copyright to each work
  c. That they will grant LIP the right to display a copy as part of an online exhibition gallery - on the LIP website - and in the publication to accompany the exhibition. Each photographer will be credited appropriately.

3. Copyright of each image is retained by the respective photographer

Submissions: Digital submissions

4. Submission Guidelines You must submit your completed form and associated image files by 11:59pm Friday 14 August 2020.
a. There is a maximum of 5 images per member.
b. Each member is requested to write a sentence at most 200 words to accompany submissions. Please submit a sentence or project statement for each unique image or series.
c. Each member is asked to include all social media platforms they wish to have included in the publication i.e. website, instagram account, Facebook.
d. Each member submitting will have at least one image with a maximum of three chosen for display as well as included in the publication
e. The £10 entry fee will cover costs of printing the publication to accompany the virtual exhibition. Each member submitting will receive a copy of the published newspaper.

5. The work submitted must have been created during the UK's 2020 Lockdown - we will accept images created from 23 March 2020 until midnight 14 August.

6. If submitting images please ensure that you upload image files with the following specification:
- jpg files, maximum 2MB each
- sized maximum 2000px minimum 1400pixels on longest side

7. As with all LIP Exhibitions, the Organiser's decision is final in the event of any dispute.

Image specification for digital submission

To keep the submissions anonymous please name your jpg files with your LIP Membership number as shown below. If you don't know your LIP Membership number, check your online Membership Account, or contact Len Salem at membership@londonphotography.org.uk

- Files must be named with LIP Membership Number, 'dash', sequence number - so six files should be named as so:
(eg. if you're member #2019)
       2019-1.jpg
       2019-2.jpg
       2019-3.jpg
       2019-4.jpg
       2019-5.jpg

If you are submitting images which form a series, place the letter s after the file name for each of the images forming the series. For example take 2019-1s.jpg, 2019-2s.jpg, 2019-3s.jpg, 2019-4.jpg, 2019-5.jpg in this string of numbers the first 3 images are part of a series and the last 2 images are single image submissions. If you wish to submit more than one series, use s1, s2.

NOTE: LIP cannot be held responsible for lost digital submissions if your files are not named to specification.
