Rab GP Lewin was born in Australia but raised in the Scottish. Being neurodiverse he was naturally attracted to creativity so became a self taught photographer. He travelled with a very basic camera which began in Granada, Spain in an anarchist village in 1990. He then moved to Munich as a guest worker, documenting his living environment and live musical acts such as Nirvana. In 1992 he moved to the East Berlin squat scene and for the next four years documented the free techno party movement with his participation in a soundsystem posse. In 1997 he moved to New Zealand where he stayed until 2011. Since then he’s been published by Vice, the Smithsonian Institute, PYMCA, Billboard magazine and numerous broadsheets. He contributed restored vintage photography for a New Zealand book based on the 1960s. In late 2021 he released his first solo publication OFF LIMITS BERLIN-EUROPE 1992-96… based on his free techno party experiences and last year was made an official Berlin Wall artist. He has a permanent display down on East Side Gallery. Recently he was accepted by the British Culture Archive who will be showing his earlier work he created in the 80s and 90s.
