It was recently my pleasure to chair yet another LIP AGM. This year taking place at the Grafton Hotel 130 Tottenham Court Road. A good mixture of established and new members came to hear first hand the individual committee members reports and to have the chance to put their questions to them and contribute to the resulting wider debate. I was excited by the many ideas that were offered.
It is clear that due the the expanding and changing requirements of our membership, that we should have a survey to gather members opinions. An online form will soon be posted on the LIP website and will eventually be replaced with the overall results. This will hopefully offer some interesting results for our future direction.
The committee has set in motion a fast forward program to implement many of the new initiatives. Some we can implement ourselves yet others clearly depend on help from our members by volunteering to help make them happen. Below are some great opportunities to give your ideas and gain experience in running a small photographic organisation. We need volunteers in the following areas:
NEWSLETTER ORGANISERS
We would like to start a small members only news letter to be posted out with each edition of the magazine. This will bring together breaking news from individual committee heads as well as various satellite groups and events. Contact Tiffany to volunteer
MAGAZINE DISTRIBUTION VOLUNTEERS
Our distribution manager Tim Crowe would really appreciate some helpers for distributing the magazine to our small group of outlets, especially someone with good accounting skills. A list of outlets will be appearing on the site soon. If you could supply your local outlets that would be great. N.B. Also if members see that one of our outlets has ran out of the magazine Tim would like to hear about it. Contact Tim to volunteer
CONTRIBUTING EDITORS TO THE MAGAZINE
Our Editor Brit need more contributing writers for the magazine, to contribute articles or conduct interviews. Also the publishing team would like volunteers to record the workshops for members who couldn’t attend. Contact Britt to volunteer
EXHIBITION VOLUNTEERS
John Stead would like help with publicising the annual exhibition, and expanding the private view as well as to putting up posters for the annual exhibition.
As a group we would like to offer more than one exhibition a year. We need volunteers to look into the logistics of having more than one exhibition a year, to find a venue, select a date and generally launch the event (with John and Avril’s expertise of course). Contact John to volunteer
DATABASE DESIGNER AND BUILDER
Our treasurer Len Salem needs to build a more robust database of members to enable co-ordination with newer methods of subscription payment. Contact Len to volunteer
