John Levett and Michael Rodgers are offering an extended workshop as part of Urban Photo Fest 2015 at Goldsmiths College.

    Re-Imaging: Critical Urban Practice

This course will provide photographers with tools for expanding their critical understanding of how photography relates to urban practice. Participants will learn about new concepts of urban exploration and reflect on their own relationship with the city to identify possibilities for generating new work or developing ongoing projects.

The course begins in August with a one-day intensive workshop which will examine theoretical approaches to photographing the city, and include practical exercises to stimulate and challenge the creative process. Participants will then work with these ideas independently and return to discuss results together in a session during Urban Photo Fest in October. There is also the option to share work-in-progress during a Crossing Lines group meeting in September.

The workshop spans the following dates:
    Saturday, 1 August, 10:00-16:00 – One-day intensive
    Wednesday, 2 September, 18:00-20:00 (Optional work-in-progress session)
    Sunday, 25 October, 15:00-17:00 – Results session

    Course tutors
John Levett – Visiting Research Fellow at Centre for Urban & Community Research, Goldsmith College
Michael Rodgers – Independent artist and LCC MA Photography graduate

Participation is free of charge and limited to sixteen applicants.
The organisers wish to emphasise that a commitment to attend both sessions is central to the success of the programme, as is spending time working on their target project in between.

Please email John Levett for further details and to book a place.
