A fine selection of portraits was on show at last month’s meeting – some taken in the studio, some in natural light, some environmental portraits of people going about their business. We also had still life images where an assemblage of objects conjured up a personal portrait of an unseen character. There was discussion about the nature of a portrait – does a portrait have to show the face or can a back view of a person be classed as a one? Does a portrait have to be posed or can it be a shot of someone taken in passing? What everyone agreed on was the necessity of putting the subject at ease – don’t ask them to hold a pose whilst you fuss about correct exposure or composition!

Our next meeting will take place on Wednesday 12th November 2014 at 18.45 at the usual venue – The Artworkers Guild, 6 Queens Square, Bloomsbury, London WC1N 3AT.
The theme for the evening will be Work – as usual feel free to interpret in your own way. Prints or digital images on a memory stick please – maximum of 10 images.
Advance notice for our December meeting: we will be having a Books session, so please select and scan up to 6 images from a photography book which you find particularly inspiring and which you would like to share. If you don’t have access to a scanner, then just bring the book along.
