Our July meeting had as its theme music or rhythm, which could be interpreted in any way people liked, from strictly literal to metaphorical. Angelika showed a very dreamy sequence of monochrome photographs of huge soapbells being blown outside Tate Modern: this had great rhythm. Simon had a minimalist chamber piece: “Ode to a Kitchen Table”, a poetic interpretation of daylight falling on a plain table and chairs in his kitchen. Geoff showed a short video on a loop of trembling cherry blossom: both beautiful and unsettling. The others had been inspired by how photogenic music making often is: and it was fascinating to watch in how many different ways this can be approached. In some photographs the focus was on the musicians and their facial expressions or gestures, in others the instruments themselves became characters that we could almost hear. The lightings conditions were often quite a challenge. Danilo showed very dynamic images of the dress rehearsal of a dance group.
Our next meeting will take place on Wednesday 10th August 2016 at 18.45 at the usual venue – The Art Workers Guild, 6 Queens Square, Bloomsbury, London WC1N 3AT.
The theme will be Current Projects/Books (anything you are currently working on or planning or any books you find particularly inspiring)
Please bring along any work you wish to share on a memory stick or in print form.
