The theme for our October meeting was “Off”. Although it had initially perplexed many of us when it was suggested, the theme elicited thoughtful and intriguing images. Amongst the ideas on display were going “off” as straightforward leave taking as shown in images of a house just before the owner went into a nursing home. There was also the idea of going off to explore other countries and we had a set of pictures of an intriguing local ceremony in Fes as well as pictures from a short trip to Belarus. There was also a consideration of modernist architecture and the buildings which then went off the original principles. Finally, there was a series of very expressive gig pictures whose exclusion from an exhibition had left the photographer “hacked off”.
Our next meeting will take place on Wednesday 14th November at 18.45 at the usual venue – The Art Workers Guild, 6 Queens Square, Bloomsbury, London WC1N 3AT. This month we will be looking at books that are influencing us. Please bring along any books (photography related or otherwise) that you wish to share.
