Good to see everyone and with a theme of frost how little there’s actually been over the last month, looking at the forecast for the rest of February I am wondering if that’s it for this year, certainly for any snow?
I started the meeting by discussing the new tie up with Barnes Artists in support of The Friends of Barnes Common. Last year’s event was a great success and it doesn’t surprise me that all parties wanted to do it again. In order to scope out the collaboration, Barnes Artists are having a meeting at The Bull’s Head in Barnes next Tuesday and all those wishing to get involved might like to come along and hear what BA have in mind (a theme of water has been mooted), Mike Hildesley the chair of FOBC also plans to say a few words.
Fred, who couldn’t make it this month, asked if I might see if anyone favoured getting back in person and it was agreed that as a compromise, we would split it up a bit, so intersperse Zoom meetings with gatherings at The Coach & Horses in Barnes. It won’t be possible to arrange anything for March but I will talk to them about whether they will let us back in again in April – more news to follow.
With this extended ‘isolation’ brought about by Covid, I introduced an idea last month where I would like to communicate with another photography group from either this country or in fact anywhere in the world. Monireh said she would talk to some friends of hers from Zimbabwe, for which more news next month. I tried talking to a group in Sunderland, where believe it or not there is a suburb called Barnes (sadly, the group I spoke to is not meeting at present). I also tried to communicate with a group in Paris and also South Dakota, where there is a place called Putney but no answer as yet. I shall keep trying and if anyone else has an idea for me please pass it on.
Continuing our cold theme, we were privileged to have our member Nigel take us through a trip he made to Iceland some years ago – his pictures were amazing and only emphasised why it should be on anyone’s bucket list. Huge thanks to Nigel for sharing such a wonderful trip with us.
We then moved onto our theme of the month, frost. Sadly, since deciding on the theme last month there haven’t been that many frosty mornings to speak of, however, that didn’t stop everyone from having a go – stand out’s for me would be Tammy’s wonderful deer, Nick’s tree, Monireh’s window and Juliette’s frosty bush.
It was agreed that our theme for next month would be ‘at night’ – thanks James W for the idea. Our meeting next month would normally be on Tuesday 15 March, however, that coincides with the Barnes Music Festival and I and one or two other members will be exhibiting in St Mary’s, so I have decided to push the meeting back a week until Tuesday 22 March and hope that’s Ok with everyone.
Again, good to see everyone and until next month – all the best AW
