The October meeting heard from LIP Member Angelika Berndt, who showed images from a recent solo exhibition at the Pfalzmuseum in Germany titled PEOPLE and CULTURES – Encounters in Africa. With the goal to learn about and understand the respective cultural influences and its impact on the people’s way of life, Angelika explained that her work involves staying with locals for several weeks at the time to better understand their values and ways of living. She explained that her exhibition sought to encourage the visitors to look at different life-styles with interest and promote what she has come to call cultural tolerance. The meeting led to interesting discussions about the representation and represented and how photographers navigate such ethics.
