Thursday 8 October – 7pm London Independent Photography proudly presents Andy Wiener .
Andy Wiener studied at the Royal College of Art between 1984 and 1986. Alongside his photographic practice, he works as a consultant in child and adolescent psychiatry at the renowned Tavistock Centre in North London.
The cathartic work of Andy Wiener disrupts the comfortability of the audience, challenging the viewers to look beneath the surface. His self portraiture work is by no means conventional, not even specifically about him but it invites the audience to put themselves in the frame also using montage to juxtapose differing ideas in each frame.
Themes in Weiner’s work range from desire, death and guilt to the idea of surrealism and childhood exploration of life. Cleverly, he uses elements of religious iconography in his work along with modern references bringing old themes of the human condition and coming of age up to date again.
Andy Weiner’s work is held in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and the Scottish Arts Council.
You can find his new Visitation Scenes through Dewi Lewis Publishing.
