Photographer Wendy Aldiss was born in Oxford and moved out of London only to come back to live there again nearly thirty years later. I first met Aldiss whilst working for the L A Noble Gallery when she exhibited her work “My Father’s Things” at London Art Fair 2020.

Both her parents took photographs and Aldiss got her first Kodak camera when she was about 8. Aldiss went on to study photography at Trent Polytechnic.

Now using both digital and analogue, her interest developed into people and the human condition and experience. Her work is influenced by the people around her and key stages in life. Wendy’s images include the portrayal of people themselves through environmental portraits, and the depiction of emotions and experiences.

Wendy Aldiss has been Photographer in Residence at the Radcliffe Infirmary hospital, Oxford, documented the Banbury Stockyard and worked with Restore, Oxford’s mental health charity, creating work and running workshops. Along with other artists, Wendy runs workshops at the Elizabeth Fry charity. Her work “Burma Veterans: Unforgettable” has been featured in four solo shows, one between lockdowns. Other solo exhibitions have shown her Radcliffe Infirmary and Banbury Stockyard work. She has taken part in many group shows in the UK and mainland Europe.

Aldiss was nominated for the RPS 100 Heroines in 2018.
