Guildford Festival of the Arts – John Walmsley

Talk and Exhibition part of Guildford Festival of the Arts

Take the lift to the for this exhibition of my photos on life in repertory theatre in 1973. I spent six weeks living and working alongside the Salisbury Playhouse company photographing how they put on a play (Mother Courage). It covers all the rehearsals, how they learnt their lines and songs, sourced props and what they did on days off etc.. There’s a booklet available from the box office for £10.

    Runs: 23 September – 11 October
Venue: 2nd floor of the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Millbrook, Guildford GU1 3UX

On Saturday 27 September from 10am to 12 midday, I’ll be in the café at the Yvonne Arnaud for a free ‘Meet the Photographer’ session. Just turn up, grab a drink, and chat about shooting this project or any of the others I’ve done: A S Neill’s democratic school, Summerhill, Special Needs situations, street photography, English traditional customs, self-publishing books & zines, protecting your copyright and what to do if someone uses your work without asking or paying.
